As reported in the Feb 22 issue of ScienceNOW Daily News, research by Bryant Buchanan of Utica College shows that "even low levels of light from incandescent, fluorescent, or other humanmade sources can [interfere] with the development, reproduction, and survival of species across the taxonomic spectrum. According to the report, with even the slightest amount of artificial light, normal frog development dropped from 40% to 10%. Constant illumination also suppressed calling behavior. In a similar snail study, snails remained hiding under leaf litter instead of searching for food.
