Web 2.0 technologies offer a great way to share and interact. For example, 280slides.com provides a way to create PowerPoint-like presentations online, for free. Slideshare.net provides a way to share those presentations.

Bill A07281/S02714 has been introduced for the 2009 legislative session |

The Healthy, Safe, and Energy Efficient Outdoor Lighting Act (Bill A07281/S02714) has been introduced for the 2009 legislative session. As with past versions, our goal is to show that there is strong support for this bill. For that, we need lots of letters and phone calls.
Please write your Assemblyperson and Senator to urge him or her to get A07281/S02714 to the floor for a vote and then to vote "yes" on the bill.

FixTheMLO.org Announces Review and Petition |

As you may know, a new draft Model Lighting Ordinance (ML)--produced by a joint IDA-IES Task Force--was released for public comment in February. Since that time an Ad Hoc Review Committee has been studying the draft and has now posted its findings to:

As you will see, the Committee identified a number of serious problems with the draft; these have been pointed out to IDA via the official MLO public comment form. At the end of its review, the Committee also concluded that IDA approval of anything like this draft would cause irreparable harm to efforts to combat light pollution. A new petition has therefore been posted to the above website, urging the IDA Board to discontinue work on this draft and start fresh with a different type of task force.
SELENE encourages you to visit the FixTheMLO site to review the analysis and comments of that group. Please take the time to submit your comments on the new MLO draft to the IDA. If you agree with the Committee's analysis, please sign their online petition. |

A7438 passes the Assembly |

The Healthy, Safe, and Energy Efficient Outdoor Lighting Act has passed the Assembly on a margin of 93-33 (unofficial tally, which might change). SELENE applauds the Assembly for passing this bill and we thank its sponsor, Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal.
We now await action by the Senate, which has till now let the bill die in committee. We are hopeful that this year will see action in that house. A call or fax from you will help our chances of getting S4364 (the matching bill) to the floor for a vote.
